i'm still alive...

Ok really i thought i'd pay more attention to this than i actually did, but hey, i guess I still have this the rest of my life if for whatever reason i wanted to blog when im 80 and in a retirement home. anyway, this month has flewn by, this summer has flewn by, feels like jsut yesterday i was getting pied in the face by kids i dont even know at my first youth group since I was in high school. now i'm flying back to the midwest (God bless that place) in 5 days. crazy. ive made great connections, relationships, friends, and familiarities out here in washington. I was even reunited with 2 of my closest friends from athletes in action just the other day and that was a blast. plus, if that wasn't great enough, i was FINALLY able to see Katie as she came out here. well we're at the point of praying and processing everything to see where God wants us come January after we say our "I do's" (well at least I know i will). so other prayers are more than welcome for our near future if it ever crosses your mind. anyway, this summer has been one of the best in my 22 years of living. just a completely new experience for me all around really, and it has been so great getting to know new people, new culture, new environment, new job, and all this while growing in the Lord, and it has been awesome. Just seeing how the Lord can use someone without any knowledge of how to be a youth pastor and transforming him into just that. amazing what He can do, and I was wrong to even doubt that it could be possible. whatever happens, whether Katie and I do come out here, whether we end up in WA, OH, PA, FL, TX, AK, HI, or even outside the US, we know the Lord will use us to further His kingdom. thank you all who have been praying for me, and for us. really I will try and use this more... 3rd time's a charm...

God Bless

So it's been a month...

I thought i would update this more, but guess not. oh well, it's mine i can do whatever i want with it. sittin here on my day off, just relaxing is exactly what i need. the past 2 weeks have been pretty busy. they included traveling to minnesota for a great family reunion, and then this past week i was at jr camp. working with 4-6 graders really is a test of patience, considering i haven't interacted with that age group for some time. don't get me wrong, i had a great time, including being mr beaver in the narnia skits, but of course i had to put up with a lot of complaining and disrespect, but i survived. ive seen the new transformers movie twice now, and i HIGHLY recommend it. there is a little more language than the first one, and girls being shown as sexual items a little too much, other than that, it's got sweet action and sweet cars. including a SIIIIIIIIIIICK silver corvette. also since living with the zakahis, ive been introduced to martial arts movie. i watched one of jackie chans earliest films, drunken master, and though i we didn't finish it, it was pretty awesome/hilarious. terrible cheesy acting and incredible fighting scenes, just like jackie chan does now, but more intense. so yea it's been fun. i'm looking forward to going to the mariners/indians game on in a couple weeks. never would i thought i'd be watchin my indans all the way in seattle. church softball has been going well. even though last week we had a low number, we still were able to make it work and i think everyone had fun. tonight should be more people now that the youth are back from mexico. i heard that trip went well and one of the guys in the youth group who has been coming for a little while accepted Christ and that makes the trip TOTALLY worth it. i was so proud to hear that, as everyone else was too. i watched the pasco fireworks with our college bible study group plus some others. it was along the columbia river and they were pretty cool. so that's how i spent my 4th of july, as well as just relaxing. well as i put on my facebook status, i am getting married in 180 days. i am SO excited to spend my life with such an incredible girl who compliments me so well. even though Katie and i have been a couple thousands of miles away this summer, our love grows stronger and we both are super excited for januaray 2, let alone seeing each other again in less than a month. she is coming out here august 4th so that will be fun. well in the youth group i started teaching sunday mornings for sr high sunday school. after 2 weeks, i'm realizing that even talking for 30 minutes takes a lot of work, but i still don't really need to stress myself. i have plenty of time to be able to prepare as long as i use my time wisely. this coming sunday i am leading music with micah, joel, and jenny so i'm really looking forward to that. micah and i will be duleing guitars, and jenny, joel, and i wil be leading vocally. so as the summer moves along, i am excited to learn more from God and see where he guides me, along with Katie, toward our future.

God Bless

First Blog

Hello World

yay it works! (those of you who know computer programming may get that little joke)...ANYWAY...So i'm new to the actual blogspot world, tho i used to blog on xanga. remember that? that was like 4 years ago. anyway. you may notice the title of the this whole deal is "Buckeye in the Northwest". in case some of you didn't know I'm the youth intern at the Sunnyside Grace Brethren Church out in Sunnyside, WA. Those of you who know the Zakahi's, I'm workin at their church, as the father, Nathan, is the head pastor and I am good friends with his sons Joel and Micah from Grace College. This experience already has been a time of growth as i've had to genuinely been getting to know people on a pretty fast-tracked basis, as well as taking responsibilities I have had to do some "how-to" research on before taking care of them. also just learning to prepare messages is a lot harder than just a 1-night homework assignment. It's like i keep coming up with material and prepare a message, then i'm told, ok break it up more, ok break up more. So basically I've taken 1 message and now i have to break it up into 8. man. that's like writing a history paper on someone or something, then breaking it into 8 more papers. i mean it's definitely possible, but just takes a lot more time. but it's good though, it's awesome to be able to brag about something like i get paid for growing spiritually, yet at the same time that's the attitude i don't want to have, nor should i have. but really, i get to sit in an office, well-library-all to myself, and just read books about areas in the Christian faith I want to learn about, and just gaining more knowledge about who God is and who He wants me to be. Who he wants me to be-that's a scary thought. about a year ago i would've called the asylum if you were to tell me i'd be a youth pastor in washington. now it's something that's starrin me in the face, if this internship goes well. Thus far i've been through 3 youth groups, 3 sunday schools, and approaching my first sunday of playing, not leading, just playing/singing with the praise team sunday morning. Also on the "free-time" side i've been to a Mariner's game, camping, fishing, 2 movies (both night at the museum and terminator are recommendable), and lost of video games. mostly rockband2 and halo3, with some MLB the Show. so yea my time here has been appreciated, and i look forward to the rest of the summer and possibly beyond. i know there will be things ive never encountered before, from talking to students about the secrets of life-like i know any, to things of less importance, like encountering a rattlesnake (which i hope to-honestly). well i'm going to do some more research on worship as a lifestyle and the aspect of prayer. i hope to update you on a consistent basis...whatever that means. i look forward to the weekend, but also look forward to what God has me learn today. Til next time...

God Bless
